Sgt. Major Albert M. Anderson was born in Scottdale, Pennsylvania on November 2, 1873 to David G. Anderson and Hester A. Morrow. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 2, 1898, serving with the recruiting party in Pittsburgh. Upon transfer in January 1899 to Columbus Barracks, Ohio he was assigned to the 17th Infantry.
